Lone Sailor by Stanley Blyfield

Memorial to Naval Personnel, Punchbowl, Hawaii – 3’X2’ Bronze

"The requirement was to present a Memorial from the U.S. Navy Memorial Foundation in Washington, DC.  In order to make a clear statement of where this memorial came from I decided to utilize a model of the Lone Sailor that was produced by Stanly Bliefeld and has become the major symbol for the Navy Memorial.  However since the administration of the punchbowl had set a protrusion requirement and I needed more space to effectively use the Lone Sailor I decided to cut into the relief instead which led me to a new area for experimentation (see Operation Tiger memorial)."
